Unit 2: Blog Entry 1

  • Write the criteria from your presentation, along with the elements and principles of design
  • Explain your criteria
  • Define the elements & principles of Art and explain how they tie into your criteria
  • Use examples that were used in the presentation as well as any new one's you can find to add to the discussion

Principles and Elements of Design 
Principles: 

  1. Balance--When the photo has a balanced composition or subject

  2. Pattern--When there is a repeating scheme in the photo
  3. Rhythm--Similar to pattern but has a sort of melody in the photograph 
  4. Contrast--Having bright and vibrate differences in the frame that brighten up everything  

  5. Unity--When the whole image comes together in a harmonious way         

  6. Emphasis--Singling out a single subject and making that the focus of the image
  7. Movement
--When it is very clear that the subjects in the photo where in movement when the photo was captured
Elements: 

  1. Line
--Drawing the viewers direction to the main focus through lines in the frame
  2. Shape
--Having a very symmetrical composition
  3. Form
--Having the subject in a certain position or setup to portray a message
  4. (Color)--Similar to contrast, but having bright colors to make the image pop
  5. Space
--Keeping an open section of the composition and leaving room for mystery
  6. Texture
--Using a rough surface so that the image has a sense of the third dimension 
  7. Value

--Having a purpose or reason for the image
