montage activity 4

  • Find two examples of photomontages that are either from a commercial source or from a fine art background. Discuss in what context they have been produced and what techniques they share with political photomontages.
  • What messages, if any, are communicated through these photomontages and how effective do you think they are? Consider different ways that each image could have been tackled by the artist and come up with an idea for ‘another in the series’.

These two images show great hidden meanings. In the first image we see someone pulling a street across afield, this can be interpreted in two ways. The first can be to make your path and do what you want for yourself, while the other meaning could show that man is taking nature and beauty and developing on it in order to live a faster and streamlined life. The second image shows someone pulling a mask across their face. This, to me, is the illusion of ones truer and real self while there true selfs mind is elsewhere.

Montage Activety 3

Activity 3

  • As editors exercise their ever-increasing power over information control, what limits would you impose on them as to the extent to which they can manipulate the photographic image?
  • Devise a series of guidelines that will control the release of images that have been constructed for media use so that the public is aware as to the extent of the manipulation.

I feel that journalism is journalism and that it should the whole truth and nothing but the truth. So when I see someone alter a photo in order to make their personal agenda better and make themselves look good, I get upset. I don't think there should be guidelines as to what the editor should be allowed to do to an image that is meant for the press, they should just not be allowed to alter them in a message changing way.
 So here are my guidelines,
1. Don't change it
2. DONT CHANGE IT
The photograph did not take and post process a photo for someone else to make it alter and eventually destroy it and all of its meaning.

Montage: Activity 2

  • Find two examples of political photomontages that are either from a historical or contemporary source.
  • Discuss in what context they have been produced and how effective you think they communicate their intended message.
  • Discuss the techniques that have been used to assemble the examples you have chosen and offer alternative ways that the artist could have put over the same message.

This photo shows president Obama kissing another political leader. this is obviously not real but is trying to make fun of the fact that he is accused of being gay because of the laws that he has passed. This was probably done by taking a photo of each of them actually kissing someone and then just masking the image.

Just like the above photo this is a fake and it shows how a politician standing in front of an explosion in the desert. The subject doesn't care that they are causing chaos across the world and all they care about is making them selves look good. This is a common accusation amongst politicians and this is them taking an idea and putting it in a single photo.
